How It All Started
How did these narrow and small wheeled toys for kids first come to be? Japan is known for small compact cars. Because of their size, some people thought the mini scooter originated in Japan. Actually it’s from Zurich and is a brainchild of a Swiss banker. The banker, Wim Ouboter, was thinking of a way to reach the sausage shop without having to walk or drive. The shop was too far to travel by walking and too near to reach by driving. Seeing to inline skate wheels he got an idea. The idea was soon developed as wheeled toys for kids. These toys were scooters made easier to use.
Why Smaller?
Traditional scooters have about double to triple the wheel size of a mini scooter (also popularly called a mini micro scooter). They are fitted for kids aged 8 to 10 years old. The handlebars are easily maneuverable to them. And the whole thing is easy for them to ride and push around. However, making them smaller and lighter in weight would make them enjoyable to younger kids. Like, say, kids from age 4 to 7. How Safe are They?
First, they are sturdily built to withstand even the worse impact. Toddlers may bump them against hard objects and be hardly affected. Yet, they are light weight little kids can easily handle them. The secret? They are made of hardened aluminum. Some models are made from half steel half aluminum materials. Quality bearings make sure the handlebars are easy to turn. They are also adjustable to serve both kids and adults. Their maximum load capacity is 50 to 70 kilograms.
Mini scooters are equipped with hand brakes for easy stopping. All children have to do is grip the brake lever and the plaything stops immediately. Other scooters are run by small motors. Their brakes are differently designed to suit motor speed. To really remedy balancing problems, some of these toys are equipped with three wheels. These features make kids extra safe when cruising with their diminutive trolleys.
