The Razor Scooter is a kick scooter developed by JDBUG. The scooter was very popular during the 1990s and 2000s and remains so to this day. The scooters are made in the United States by RazorUSA. Their headquarters is in Cerritos in California.
Purpose and Construction
The scooter is designed mainly to be used as a toy for toddlers. However it can also be utilized freestyle. The basic design is made up of 98 mm polyurethane wheels, an aluminum frame and the hinged fender above the rear wheel. This component is pushed down and acts as a spoon brake.
When the quick release latch is activated, the headtube and handlebar are folded. This allows the scooter to be stored and carried easily.
Razor Scooter Versions
These include the A versions, A, A2, A3, and A5, the Ultra and Pro models. The AW 125 comes with 125 mm wheels and an extra long deck. The AW is the basic A equipped with the wheelie-bar. The Cruiser Scooter has the biggest wheels and is noted for their wood deck. The Rugged Razor comes with pneumatic tires.
Use in Freestyle Scootering
This scooter is used widely in freestyle scootering, but owing to the complexities of trick riding, the basic scooter is often strengthened to withstand hits. In response, the company released the Pro (A4) in 2004.
It is now preferred by freestylers because it is much larger and stronger. Currently it is the toughest of all the company’s scooters. Among the tricks used in freestyle are the 360’s, grinds and hairspin.
Riding the Scooter
Begin by looking for an even surface to ride on. The best surface would be packed dirt or asphalt. The reason is the scooter’s wheels are very low. If you ride on surfaces like grass, the wheel will bind. This can damage the scooter.
Step 1
Put your foot on the baseboard; this is between the wheels of the scooter.
Step 2
Use your other foot to push off the surface. Keep repeating the pushing off movement until you get the speed you like.
Step 3
When you have the speed you want, place your other foot onto the baseboard too. Maintain your balance. Now you will be riding the scooter like a skateboard. Use the steering wheel to get to the desired location. Step on the rear fender to use the brakes.
